Whether you are feeling low or happily spending fun moments with your loved ones, or traveling at your favourite destination, or enjoying ‘me time’ at home when it rains - there is music for every mood and occasion. Music helps us weave memories we want to keep in our minds for a long time. The language of music is beautiful and transcends geographical boundaries to create everlasting unity in diversity.

On the occasion of World Music Day celebrated every year on June 21, let us understand how music can foster our emotional, mental and physical wellbeing.

Promotes heart health – Research has shown that when you listen to your favourite music, blood circulation is enhanced. It also works magically to reduce heart rate, lower blood pressure, decrease cortisol (stress hormone) levels.

Elevates mood – Music acts as a therapy to boost the brain’s production of the hormone dopamine, giving you feelings of pleasure, satisfaction, happiness and relaxation. With the release of dopamine, one gets relief from depression and anxiety.

Eases stress – Studies have found out that music helps distract your mind from negative thoughts and divert your attention from stressful events to happy moments. This is how, music can do a great deal in managing your stress.

Improves memory – Music has positive impacts on people with Alzheimer’s. A study has shown that music therapy can help improve memory of patients with Alzheimer’s, reduce agitation in them and improve their behavioural traits.
